Welcome to El Paso Mom! We’re so glad you’re here!

Many years ago, I had recently relocated and was working online. My family lived far away. My husband had a new job, and he was putting in long hours. I had two precious baby boys, but no local friends to speak of.

Those early years of motherhood were definitely the loneliest of my life. I was missing connection with other people and with my community.

I would never want any other mother to experience what I did because the truth is none of us is really alone. There are other moms going through much of what you’re experiencing, who want to connect as much as you do. We weren’t meant to live mom-life alone.

And that is why El Paso Mom exists. This website is meant to connect you with other local moms, parenting perspectives, local information, and area businesses.

Can the importance of community, especially when it comes to raising our kiddos, really be overstated? I don’t think so!

Long gone are the days when we live in the same village, or even the same house, as our mothers and tías and abuelas to learn the practical things of life. It’s not as normal as it once was to pop over to a neighbor’s house unannounced to ask for a cup of sugar or an egg. The world has changed.

But let’s not idealize the past without recognizing the detrimental parts of yesteryear. While a sense of community did exist, there lacked authenticity. Many of our foremothers didn’t talk about the hard parts of life or the messy things of mothering. It was better to appear perfect than to be real. And certainly, diversity of voices wasn’t a societal value in the past.

But what if we intentionally create a community that combines the best of both worlds? That’s what El Paso Mom seeks to be . . . a spot on the internet (and soon in person) where real, authentic, and even vulnerable community can happen. A safe space where we can truly care about and support each other and celebrate our differences. A place where we recognize that there’s no right way to be a mom. We’d love for you to join in the conversation to make those things a reality.
