Dear New Mom, You’re Doing Great

0

Dear new mom, you’re doing amazing, sweetie.

Motherhood is definitely the hardest job that you will have for the rest of your life. It is both a rewarding and draining job. The love you receive from your child makes all of the sleepless nights and stressful moments worth it, but there is something you need to know.

You’re doing a great job even when it doesn’t feel like it. Here are a few things I wish someone would have told me after I had my daughter.

Dear New Mom, You’re Doing Great

Stay positive.

There will be times that you doubt yourself and wonder if you even know what you’re doing. I know it’s difficult, but that’s what motherhood is: the journey of figuring out what is best for you and your baby.

Embrace motherhood.

As a new mom, you will most likely struggle with “finding yourself again.” This is something I desperately tried to do for months until I finally realized that motherhood changes you so much. There is no way you will ever go back to being the person you were before. And that’s a good thing.

Breaks are necessary.

It’s OK to take breaks every so often. Don’t feel bad if you ever need a few minutes to yourself. Every mom needs a break every once and a while. It’s healthy to get away for a minute and focus on yourself. You need to take care of yourself first in order to take care of your baby.

Don’t doubt yourself.

Remember to give yourself credit when you’re having a bad day. Motherhood is a learn-as-you-go job that nothing else in life can prepare you for. Not only are you dealing with a new child but so many other things in your life will change as well. Be kind to yourself and embrace the many changes coming your way.

Your child adores you.

As a new mom, you will have good days and you will have bad days. Make sure you always remember that you are enough. We as mothers tend to be very hard on ourselves, but there is no one else better equipped to handle your child than you.

It takes a village.

Friends and family that support you and love your child are a gift. Let the people you trust lend a helping hand when you need it the most.

Enjoy the moment.

Please enjoy this precious time in your life. Yes, it’s stressful and tiresome, but your baby is growing by the minute. Before you know it, things will be completely different and you will miss these days. Motherhood has taught me that time is a thief and there is nothing you can do about it.

But most importantly…

Be kind to yourself and remember that you’re a great mom!
